Clare, panoramic view looking southward. The town was established in 1842 by John Horrocks and named after his ancestral home in County Clare, Ireland. Original inhabitants were the Ngadjuri people. White settlers originally named it Inchiquin. Clare Valley was known for its copper, farming and the first grapes were grown in 1851 by Jesuit priests from Silesia (Poland). Photograph was taken on 26th February 1933. According to a researcher, the roof of the building in the centre of the view belongs to the "old town hall" the squared tower is over the main street entrance.
