Summary

Coming into the township of Clare in approximately 1909. The area was originally the principal camping and burial grounds of the Ngadjuri people. Clare was first named Inchiquin and later changed its name to Clare after Country Clare in Ireland, the home town of Edward Burton Gleeson who established the township in 1842. The layout of the town was done by a draughtsman in Adelaide who had no local knowledge thus some of the roads stop abruptly at cliff faces only to continue at the top of the cliff again.
