1865, Artwork, B 1781
Print of a painting of the clipper ship 'Yatala', a composite ship of 1127 tons, was built by Hall of Aberdeen in 1865, for the Orient Line of clippers. Her seven voyages out to Adelaide averaged seventy-seven days, her best being sixty-five days. On the 18th December, 1872 she left Port Adelaide for London in company with the Beltana, but on the 27th March, 1873, she went ashore near Cape Gris Nez. Most of the wool cargo was salvaged but the ship could not be saved. For an account of a famous ocean race between the 'Yatala' and the 'City of Adelaide' see the Register, June 11th, 1867. See B 1777-1781 for prints of paintings of clipper ships.
