World War 1 era campaign button badges
73 World War 1 era badges (also known as campaign buttons or 'tinnies') collected by Alan David and Winifred Smith Greenlees, when they were living in Broken Hill. Most badges were designed and created to be purchased as a fundraising interest, in order to raise money for various factions of the Red Cross, and most were manufactured by Alfred E.S. Stokes in Australia 'Manufacturer of Photographic reproduction, coloured Patriotic, Carnival, Campaign Buttons, etc. 228 Pitt Street, Sydney'. Several of this group of items were designed for other charity groups such as the Returned Services League (RSL), the Florence Nightingale Fund, the Army Nurses Day, the Civilian TB & Cancer Fund, the Navy Day, the Wattle League, the Lord Mayor's Japanese Relief Fund and other ventures.

P.S. Nil Desperandum at river bank at Mannum
Side view of 'P.S. Nil Desperandum' at the river bank, with possibly the hull of 'Paringa' in Mannum Dock. The following information was provided by a researcher: Captain William Richard Randell owned the 'Nil Desperandum' from 1870s to the 1880s, and also owned the Randell Dry Dock at Mannum. Photographer Robert Stacy was a South Australian travelling photographer in the 1860s to 1880s. He had a shop and studio at Strathalbyn in 1870 and also had intermittent studios at North Adelaide.

Papers of Sir Henry Ayers, Premier of S.A., including letters received from Lady Musgrave and Sir John Downer, and of his granddaughter, Lucy Lockett Ayers and his family, comprising correspondence relating to his political career, commissions of appointment, maps, including a plan of the Adelaide to Port Darwin telegraph line (1872, formerly C 725) in folded sections backed on canvas with blue leather cover with gold blocked title & Sir Henry Ayers' armorial book plate, manuscripts, newspaper cuttings, family papers, photographs and programmes. Also contains diaries of Lucy Lockett Ayers. Includes literary manuscripts. Additional papers comprise his personal files on education, South Australian Gas Company (when he was chairman), his parliamentary career in the Legislative Council, papers relating to wheat yields and land leases, and history of foundation of the state, finance and banking, and miscellaneous papers about agricultural and Crown Land /nationalization of land. Correspondents include R.C. Baker, Robert Barr Smith, W.H. Bundey, G.W. Goyder, H.R. Hancock, John Lewis, Dr. S. Magarey, Solomon Moody, Sir Charles Todd, Samuel Tomkinson and S.J. Way.


South Australian Company's Bank, Adelaide
Watercolour painting of the 'South Australian Company's Bank, Adelaide', shown in the middle distance with a dirt road leading up to it. The location is believed to be North Terrace, west of King William Street, looking south from the Parklands near the Torrens. The artist has signed it in the bottom left hand corner, and dated it 25th July 1838 in the bottom right.


Hindley Street, Adelaide
Hindley Street, Adelaide, north side, a few yards west of Bank Street. In the front of the building, at the kerbside, is a 'blackboy' horse hitching post which would probably have been imported from the United States. The right side of McLean Bros' premises is 13 yards west of Bank Street. For a view taken in 1900, when this building is occupied by James Smith & Co., see B 44006.


River Torrens
Looking west from a point east of the Adelaide Bridge. A foot paddle boat is moored on the bank in the foreground and the boat sheds can be seen opposite on the southern side of Torrens Lake. Numerous rowing boats have been pulled up onto the banks either side of the lake.

Samuel Tomkinson
[General description] Head and shoulders of the subject. He is wearing a white shirt and bow tie and a dark jacket. His grey hair is short and he wears sideburns. He arrived in Adelaide in 1850 as an employee of the Bank of Australasia, retiring from the bank as a local director in 1879. He became a conservative Member of Parliament (both upper and lower houses), a Justice of the Peace and Alderman of the Adelaide City Council for twelve years. [On back of photograph] 'Alderman Samuel Tomkinson / Died 1900'.

Football team
Members of a football team photographed at the Jubilee Oval, Adelaide. According to a researcher, this may be a Sturt Football club photo and some of the players include J.L.R. Kay (6th person across, back row), V.Y. Richardson and O.B. Beatty (4th and 5th players across, middle row), ? Bailey (umpire) and G.F. King (front row). Percy Crowley is 3rd from left in the front row. Another researcher suggests that this photo is the civil service team that played a combined Banks team. An annual game was held yearly from the 1880's up to World War 2. There are Sturt players in the photo. Another researcher provided the following information: A copy of this photograph appears in 'The Critic' of 4 August 1920 and is captioned Public Service Football Team. The 'Register' of 28 July 1920 gives the names of the team selected to play against the Combined Banks team: O.B. Beatty, L.P. Jervis, P. Crowley, F.C. Curnow, F.J. McNally, L.R. Davies, H.H. Dixon, H.B. Groves, J.A. Hansen, J.L.R. Kay, J.W. Wainwright, W.J. Keane, G.F. King, V.Y. Richardson, R.N. Sanders, B.E. Schumacher, D.C. Sharp, F.C. Shearer (emergencies) C. Groves, G. Murray.


Photographs of river shipping and places
Photographs from Harry Godson's collection, some which had been assigned his catalogue numbers but were not included in earlier digitised series 1-4. A few have been donated since his death, to be added to his collection. Included are transparencies of aerial views of 1974 flood along River Murray, photographer unknown (Godson ref: 'Index 59'). Images 366-400 are the first in sequence, followed by images 322-352.


Combined Banks F Team
Footballers of the Combined Banks F. Team with Sir Archibald Weigall, Governor of South Australia. Glyn De Villiers Bosisto (third from left seated) played one match for North Adelaide Football Club in 1922. He went onto become one of Australia's greatest lawn bowlers.

Fourteen black and white prints, (20.5 cm x 15.5 cm) of river banks, excavation sites, people on field trip and vehicles at Fromm's Landing. Also includes contact prints. Fromm's Landing sites are located on the west bank of the lower Murray River approximately ninety Kilometres east of Adelaide.


Photographs and slides relating to Coober Pedy
Photographs selected to be incorporated into a book about Coober Pedy. Initial discussions took place between John Dallwitz and Rigby Ltd. in 1977 but it is unclear as to whether the book was published. Photographs were to be used in various chapters .... which was to be titled 'Photographic essay of present day Coober Pedy'. Also an index to the photographs. Not all the photographs have been digitised. Also includes colour slides with the name 'Busbridge' on them.
