Part of the foreshore and a distant view of the jetty at Beachport, South Australia. The house was known as Rivoli House, and built around 1879 for Mr. A.S. Smith, who was the manager of the Adelaide Shipping Company. It was later owned by Mr. Edward French, a shipping agent, before it became the home of the Superintendent of the South Eastern Drainage Board when the Board purchased five acres of land, various outhouses and the house [see also at PRG 280/1/15/544].

According to information supplied by the donor, people in front of the house or on the verandah include Henry Rymill (1837-1927) and wife Lucy Lockett Rymill (1839-1885), Arthur John Baker (1814-1900), Arthur Graham Rymill (1868-1934), Margaretta Emily Baker, nee Lockett (1810-1890), Herbert Lockett Rymill (1870-1951), Mrs Elizabeth Churcher (1796-1874) sister of Mrs M.E. Baker, and Amy Baker (1846-1932). This view of the garden shows two stone lions have been added near the base of the fountain since an earlier view (PRG 1361/20/3) was taken.

Monochrome tinted lithograph depicting the original Southern Cross Hotel that was on Currie Street in Adelaide. The building design consists of a small half-octagonal domed section adjoining at the back of the building by a long rectangular section. The building rests in what seems to be the middle of a fenced field. A large cross sits atop the peak of the dome. Included in the scene are three sheep in a paddock. The hotel was 30 meters east of Rosina Street and operated from late 1837 until May 1843. Frederick William Allen was the licensee.

Photographs collected and taken for a conservation study of older residential buildings and hotels in Adelaide city (not North Adelaide) in 1976-1977, initiated by the Adelaide Residents' Society Inc., which were later used in their 1978 publication 'Preserving Historic Adelaide' edited by Colin Bond and Hamish Ramsay (Rigby Limited). The names of the photographers are not specified, but the following people were involved: Bob Ramsay, Michael Brock, Peter Kelly and Peter O'Grady. (Negatives of their photographs comprise series 4-6 of this group, and may include images from this series.) Some of the early views of buildings have been copied from State Library images (denoted in captions by 'SLSA'). See 'Contents' in 'More info' for details. (The City Acre number or exact location is not specified). Three images not listed in the 'Contents' but included in the book are: (98) Part of Queen Elizabeth I's proclamation of 1560 'agaynst breakyng or defacing of Monuments'; (99) Elevation drawing of St Paul's Cathedral, London by Christopher Wren; (100) Kirribilli House, Sydney.

Buildings in the foreground on the eastern side of King William Street are the National Bank and Beehive Corner and on the western side are the English, Scottish and Australian Bank and the Australian Mutual Provident (AMP) Society. The street is busy with horse drawn vehicles and pedestrians. A telegraph pole and wires also dominates the foreground. The Adelaide Town Hall clock tower can be seen in the distance. A banner advertising the play 'Sweet Nell of Old Drury' which was presented at the Theatre Royal, Hindley Street, from 28 April 1902 to 9 May 1902 is visible in high resolution scans. The horse trams are lunch time 'specials', which did not stop, and two pedestrians can be seen running to board the moving tram. Many city workers went home for lunch at this time [additional information provided by a researcher].

Memorial Hospital Remembrance Stone

The Memorial Hospital Remembrance Stone located on the Memorial Hospital building, North Adelaide. It honours all who served in 1914 - 1919 and is dedicated for the healing of the sick. It was laid by Mr. J.M. McBride, Senior, on 18 December 1920.

The Rundle Mall bronze pig sculpture, officially known as 'A day out', by Marguerite Derricourt, in front of Kiosk 2 selling fruit juice and yoghurt. Only three of the four pigs are visible, they are Truffles (the standing pig), Horatio (the sitting pig) and Oliver (the pig at the bin). Augusta (the trotting pig) is hidden by the bin. 2012 Christmas decorations are still in place.
