Semaphore Esplanade

Semaphore Esplanade

Semaphore Esplanade showing the Soldier's Memorial, jetty, and trams. The foreshore is a hive of activity: tea room serving boiling water and trays of tea, merry go round, helter skelter, ice cream palours, numerous sunshades as far as the eye can see and sideshows.

Semaphore

Semaphore

[General description] Part D of panorama of Esplanade at Semaphore, with part of the foreshore reserve being seen in the foreground. (This series consists of five sections to be fitted together.) In the foreground of this section there are buildings associated with the foreshore amusement park. On the Esplanade is a mix of motor and horse-drawn traffic (including the same Woodroofe's delivery van that appears in section B, pulled up opposite the Refreshment Rooms, indicating that the photographer must have started at Section E and worked to the left). A tram has reached the end of the line on the Semaphore Road and the Time Ball tower is seen in the centre. [On back of photograph] 'Reproduced in the 'Chronicle', January 25th, 1930 / Semaphore / 1930 / (Attach to sheets C and E)'.
