One of a set of three photograph albums (B 71135 - B 71137) featuring photographs of construction of the Barossa Salisbury pipeline, Hume pipe works at Port Pirie, surge tower at Robertson, pumping station at Morgan, and the opening ceremony of the first stage of water from Baroota Reservoir to Whyalla. Title on spine is 'Barossa - Aliseu y ... Morgan-Whyalla ...'. Many of the photos have over-arching captions including: 1-55. Kaines Collection

Collection of 15 photograph albums, containing 2943 photographs taken by Jack Kaines from the time he finised school until the end of World War II. The photographs act as a pictorial documentary of his life showing the places he traveled to around South Australia and Australia, including many roadtrips and daytrips visiting friends and family. Many of the photographs show the various cars that he owned. The photographs taken during World War II initially show many other Servicemen, but subsequently become mostly tourist shots. Except for a small number of photographs taken in Fiji, the collection ends with his war photographs, and the last 30 years of his life is not captured in this collection. A selection of photographs from his albums have been digitised and can be searched on PRG 1638.

The Arrival of Sir Henry Galway on the "Marion" to lay the foundation stone of the Blanchetown Lock on 5 June 1915. "An Army of Politicians" attended this grand occasion. There were 120 passengers including crew with the official party who boarded the "Marion" in Murray Bridge after travelling by rail from Adelaide. The William R Randell Lock was the first link in the chain in the development of harnessing and controlling the River Murray. The lock was named in honour of the pioneer of river navigation in the 1880s

GENERAL: The 'Eva Millicent', a stern wheel paddle steamer owned by river trader Edward Diener and used as a home and store on the Darling and Murray Rivers until 1903, it was then towed by the Diener's 'Merle' as a shop barge' until 1911; the bridge in the background is in Wentworth.

P.S. Burrabogie

The Paddle Steamer 'Burrabogie' on the Tambo River, passing through the Swan Reach Bridge, Gippsland, Victoria. The 'Burrabogie' as altered when taken to Gippsland Lakes in 1870s. The 'Burrabogie' originally serviced the Murray River trade from 1874 to 1885 when she was sold and transported to the Gippsland Lakes, Victoria.

The 'Murrumbidgee' on the bank of a river, with a barge behind it. Caption on back reads PS "Murrumbidgee" loading wood. Steamers were wood fired. When the boats were running fast woodcutters would be engaged to cut and stockpile timber. When the pace was slower, as in slack times, the crew would often cut and load their own wood. The PS "Murrumbidgee" regularly steamed along the Goulburn River, shipping wheat from Shepparton. It was also used to hawk goods to settlements along the Darling River.
