Captain John Matthews born 5/4/1798 Truro Cornwall, died 22/7/1866 Melbourne Victoria, who married Honor Williams. Came to Australia 1853, age 58 to try his luck in the gold fields. They had two sons Daniel and William Matthews

Three of the family died, Margaret (born Perth 8 June 1843) Lydia (born Birdhope Craig, Northumberland 17 February 1847), John (born and died in Hobart after 2 days 1856)
