Paddle steamer 'Ruby' moored at the river bank. The 'Ruby' was built in 1876 at Moama. (The second of 4 steamers with the name "Ruby"). It was converted to a barge in 1908. Description on the verso reads 'P.S. Ruby at Mildura. The 1880s saw the emergence of passenger cargo boats providing a regular service between towns. Here the 'Ruby' is moored sedately to the river bank at Mildura. in full steam, however, her high superstructure and narrow hull caused her to roll like an ocean tramp when rounding a bend at full speed. The carbide (gas) lights allowed her to travel day and night. Photographer unknown'. River steamer "Kelvin", formerly the "Ariel" converted 1912 at Goolwa. "Kelvin " was built from the wreck of steamer "Ariel", replaced "Dispatch" as a passenger and mail steamer between Morgan and Murray Bridge from 1912.

[General description] A train is stationary in the yard at the Moonta Railway Station. A man, maybe the engineer is standing on the cowcatcher of the locomotive. The railway station building was designed by architect Alfred McBain Bonython and erected by Gambling & Son in 1909. It was one of several built to the same design by at Penola, Tailem Bend, Wallaroo and Murray Bridge.
