Anglican Church, Moonta
[General description] This Church was built in early English style by Maddern & Potts (stonemasons) and Hague & Lake (carpenters) to the design of Thomas Jones.It was opened by Bishop Short in September 1874. It was built from local stone and the bell was cast from local copper. [On back of photograph] 'Anglican Church, Moonta (All Saints)' (Another hand) 'Foundation stone of All Saints laid in 1873. Church bell cast in Moonta Mines foundry. (The first C. of E. Church was in Ryan St. and is now -1952- a hall.) Vide Mr. O. Pryor. / Before 1927'.

Tasman Terrace, Port Lincoln
Tasman Terrace, Port Lincoln on Boston Bay. Among other buildings stands the Pier Hotel's whose proprietor in 1867-1871 was CR Jones. Bare hillside can be seen behind Tasman Terrace. A cow can be seen grazing on the land between the hotel and beach.

Lithographic print of a panoramic view of Port Wallaroo from the Jetty, with the smelting works in the background. A note on the back by O. Pryor reads: 'View of Wallaroo Jetty and Smelting works. Erection of smelters began early in 1861. Ten furnaces completed about September of that year. Fires list in November 1861. Wood fuel used at first, mixed with coal a little later. Architects: G. and E. Hamilton, Adelaide. Contractors: Tiver and Co. Superintendent: Capt. Lysson Jones, formerly of Burra and Kapunda. Stack - 110 feet high, 24 feet square at base, 12 feet square at summit. See the "Observer" for articles on furnaces, jetty & stack (Jan. 25, 1862), opening ceremony and lighting new furnaces (Nov. 16, 1861, Suppl. 4c), new jetty (Nov. 30, 1861, 2b), and arrival of crane and donkey engine for jetty (Dec. 14, 1861, 7g).

Karatta House, Robe. Built in 1858 by the Jones family of the Naracoorte district and subsequently renovated and used as a summer residence by Governor Fergusson.

Karratta House, Robe
[General description] Front of Karratta House, Robe. It is a substantial stone mansion which was built by pastoralist Henry Jones in 1860, looking out over Lake Butler (in the foreground). It was subsequently renovated and used as a holiday house by Sir James Ferguson, Governor of South Australia in the 1870s. It appears to be undergoing work in this photograph as one end section and a verandah have been demolished. Later was owned and again renovated (c. 1900) by Henry Dutton of Anlaby.


Bejah Dervish
Portrait of Bejah Dervish: He was the man who went up North-West, and discovered the bodies of Jones and Wells, the lost explorers. Signature on reverse of original. He was born in Baluchistan now part of Pakistan. He served with British Forces at Kandahar and Karachi under Lord Roberts. He moved to Australia in 1890. He was a camel driver and eventually settled in Maree and operated his camel transport business. He made a major contribution to the development of South Australia

[General description] Head and shoulders portrait of Sir John Hannah Gordon who is looking to the left, past the photographer. At this time he is about forty years old and has short hair and a neat moustache. He wears a high buttoned single breasted jacket over a shirt with a with a wing collar and spotted tie. He was a judge, politician and enthusiastic federalist. He was appointed Q.C. in 1900 and was knighted in 1908.
