Railway Hotel, Jamestown existed ffrom 1881 and stands in Alexandra Terrace. At the time of the photograph the proprietor was William W Jones. He held this position from 1889-1891. the two storey stone hotel has a return verandah. A drinking trough and hitching posts stand outside the building.

Laying of the foundation stone of the Jamestown Hospital. By the turn of the century Jamestown had a hospital, primary school, secondary agriculture school, flour mill and stock selling yards. The cottage hospital was owned by Dr JA Cockburn in Clifton Road. It was used until 1884 when the government built its own.

The opening run was fixed for 9 June to Wirrabara, starting from M.S. McLeod's Cycle and Motor store, Ayr Street, visible on the right of this picture. Other shops include H.L. Berridge (Jeweller), J.C. Skurry - Skurray's (Bootmaker) and Adelaide Tailor.
