Institute, Jamestown. Jamestown was proclaimed in 1871. By 1881 the town had a post office, court house, police station, Institute, street lighting, schools, railway station, two banks, flour mill, butcher, baker, churches, stores, newspaper, brewery, hospital, blacksmith, coach building factory, District Council and many hotels.

Soldier's Memorial, Jamestown. The Arch is flanked by four marble pillars surmounted by a white marble centre arch with the insignia of the Australian Military Forces at the centre. Two wrought iron entry gates sit between the pillars. A local family named Mara sacrificed four sons from their six to World War One. Jamestown recognized this amazing contribution by a memorial inscription on the stain glass window in the Anglican Church and also with inscriptions on the Arch of Remembrance in the public gardens.

Flood scene at Laura, Jamestown. The Belalie Creek running through Jamestown flooded in 1941 and two bridges were swept away. The town centre was inundated by a metre of water.
