Henry Brougham Harman ran his drapery business at 13 Hindley Street, Adelaide, from 1865 until 1875, when on the 13th April he died at his residence, Brougham Place in Wakefield Street. At the age of 23 Henry had married Emily Eliza Morey (18) at Trinity Church on the 1st May 1855. They had five children. Henry is buried in West Terrace Cemetery.

Firemen are climbing a ladder to the roof of the building. Businesses from left to right: The Exchange Hotel, The Gentleman's Boot Emporium, Isaac's Corner Tobacconist, John Steel, Watchmaker, Moss' Loan Bank, T.J. Hannam, Florists. A sign advises that Patey's Liliputian Opera Co. is performing at the Theatre Royal.

Hindley Street, north side, 27 November 1902. J Miller Anderson and Company has two shop front windows in the building which also houses dentist's rooms. The building is being altered and a sign warns the public to be careful. A statue of a sheep is hanging from a balcony over the entrance to Miller Anderson and Company. Posters on the front of the building are advertising The Theatre Royal production of 'Widow Japan' starring Maggie Moore. Electrical lighting and power is being installed by Todd and Samuel from the Electrical Department Adelaide.

Seven men are standing outside the bootmakers premises which is located in a two storey building with arched windows on the first floor and a parapet across the roof.

Black Bull Hotel, 45 (later 58) Hindley Street

Black Bull Hotel located on the North side of Hindley Street between Bank and Blyth Streets. The first licensee commenced trading from a tent in Buffalo Row. Traded in a building at present address from 1838. Apparently was established by James Chittleborough in 1837. It traded as the Black Bull until 1947 when it was renamed the Berkeley Hotel. A date carved into stone at the top of the two storey building says 1878. In 1880 the proprietor was George Hubble. In the photograph one lady is standing in the doorway surrounded by men and lads wearing hats. Two distinguished looking gentlemen are standing on the first foor balcony.

Hindley Street, north side. The right side of Stone's London ham shop is 35 yards east of Bank Street. Chris's Eagle Hotel appears in the centre of the photograph. The proprietor was Hans Christensen at this time. The hotel was established in 1846.
