The 'S.W. Merle' with what was believed to be the 'Flo D' barge alongside, steaming mid-river on the Murray. According to a researcher 'the vessel on the left is the sternwheeler Merle. The vessel on the right appears to be the P.S Kookaburra before its engine was fitted'.

Carrying cargo of wool bales. The steamer was captained by Lennart Strom, who was Swedish and arrived in Australia with the Swedish merchant navy at 19. He lived in Echuca and married Mary Cashen, a woman of English descent.
