Lined up in the centre of the road are horse cabs, and on the Currie Street intersection is the Gouge's Fountain which will soon be removed for the Duke of Edinburgh's visit in 1867. Work is being done on the building in the left foreground as there is scaffolding on its facade and part of the roof is missing. A parade of mounted soldiers of the Light Horse Regiment riding along King William Street past the Adelaide Town Hall, South Australia. This photo appeared in 'The Observer' newspaper, Saturday 27 April 1918, page 23, along with a description of the parade: 'Returned Soldiers' Building Fund Appeal. The appeal which is being made to the public in behalf of our returned sailors and soldiers for a central home or clubhouse was continued on Saturday afternoon, when a fine programme of sports was contested on the Juibilee Oval. The military authorities lent their hearty co-operation, with the result that one of the finest processions which has been seen in Adelaide for some time was witnessed by thousands of patriotic citizens, who thronged the main thoroughfares of the metropolis.' This particular photo was captioned 'The march past of the Light Horse.'

[General description] The Prince Alfred Hotel and Town Hall buildings on King William Street. Cars are parked at the kerb. The Prince Alfred Hotel was first licenced in 1869 and ceased commercial operation in 1953. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 203 / King William Street, east side / June 14, 1937 / Prince Alfred Hotel / Verandah, balcony etc. on front of hotel were removed in 1937. Compare with B 6295 and B 6832 / The hotel frontage extends for a distance of 21 yards south of the near side of the Town Hall balcony / The right side of hotel is 74 yards north of Flinders Street'.

Presented by the Newbury-Spada Company of Philip Newbury and Emily Spada the concert ran every Saturday from 28 April 1900 to 26 May 1900, the cost of admission being one shilling.
