An exhibition of furniture and soft furnishings displayed in Adelaide Town Hall, the chairs were made by Mr. Brice who had a business in Hindley Street, Adelaide. A researcher has suggested that this is not a furniture exhibition and the chairs were for use by the visitors to the exhibition.

[General description] Photograph of a sketch of the Adelaide Town Hall, King William Street, which is attached to an invitation to the Town Hall Opening Banquet in 1866. (See B 5549/2) The image shows a clock face in the clocktower. On the border of the photograph there is a pencilled inscription dated 2nd May, 1934, by the Chief Librarian, Mr. G. H. Pitt stating that 'Photo from a sketch, there was never a clock in this tower'. This was true at the time. It was not until 1935 that Alderman Lavington Bonython donated the present town hall clock.

Duryea's Adelaide Album 2

An album compiled by Adelaide photographer, Townsend Duryea, with the title 'Duryea's Adelaide Album' embossed on the front cover. The first 'page' is a panorama of Adelaide, comprising five roughly uniform panels, mounted on linen to form a continuous image 12.5 x 89.5 mm (the linen measures 248 x 940 mm, and folds into three equal sections to fit into the album). The other photographs in the album show King William Street, Victoria Square, the Torrens River and Botanic Gardens. A book plate at the front indicates that it was originally owned by Edward Angas Johnson.

Gouge's fountain can just be made out in the distance, in the centre of the road; just behind the shoulder of the lady standing at the Square gate. [On back of photograph] 'Advertiser building erected 1869 / Town Hall opened 1866 / Foundation Stone of Post Office laid Nov. 1, 1867 (Another hand) 'Photo taken in 1866 / The low building on the extreme left was demolished in 1866 (before Oct. 26.;see research notes 39) It housed the Local and Police Courts from 1851 to 1866.'
