A group of men are standing in a clearing amongst trees with a glimpse of the water in the background. They are two Aboriginal hunters and three European men, the first unknown, in the centre is H.W.H. Stevens, and on the right is E.C. Stirling . They have just shot an alligator. [On back of photograph] 'Alligator shooting on the coast near Daly River / Northern Territory / In the eighteen eighties / Left: Alfred Giles / Centre: H.W.H. Stevens / Right: Probably Cuthbertson, the explorer' (Another hand) E.S. Booth, 17/7/1967 has queried these captions and says that only H.W.H. Stevens is correct. The man on the right is E.C. Stirling. A pencil note by C.S. ? on 17/7/67 states that 'Mr. Booth suggests that figure on the left is not Alfred Giles. See B 5049 showing Alfred Giles in centre' (Another note) 'Taken by P. Foelsche in March 1891'.
