Historical information

No. 3498 Private Harry Havelett, was an Indigenous man born at Alice Springs in 1898, son of George Havelett (Habelett or Hablett) of Barrow Creek, worked as a stockman in Port Augusta, South Australia, before he enlisted with the AIF on 24 January 1917, at the age of 19. He served with the 50th Battalion, 9th Reinforcement, and embarked from Adelaide on board the HMAT A48 'Seang Bee' on 10 February 1917. He served on the Western Front and died of wounds on 8 July 1918, and is buried at Daours Cemetery in France.
