Summary

Memorial scroll presented to the next of kin of Private John Robert WIlson, 12th Battalion, AIF. The scroll features the Royal Coat of Arms of the British monarchy in the top, with a message paying tribute to the fallen soldiers, sailors and nurses, printed in calligraphic script underneath, and the rank, name and regiment of the commemorated serviceman handwritten in calligraphic script at the bottom. The scrolls were issued in addition to the bronze memorial plaques to relatives of men and women whose deaths were attributable to the First World War. The scrolls were announced in England in October 1917, with the first scrolls presented in Australia in 1922. Historical information

No. 1928 Private John Robert Wilson, 12th Battalion AIF, 5th Reinforcement, was the son of Charles and Caroline Wilson of Adelaide, born in Broken Hill NSW. He enlisted with the AIF on 20 January 1915, embarked from Adelaide aboard the HMAT A20 'Honorata' on 20 April 1915, and was killed in action on 8 August 1915 at Gallipoli, aged 25.
