A researcher has suggested that the officer on the far left is Lieutenant Arthur Francis Lindsay Harper, Adjutant of Mitcham Camp, standing next to Major Walter Leslie Stuart, the second Commandant of Mitcham Camp, and in the centre, South Australian Governor Sir Henry Galway in civilian clothing and holding a cane, rather than wearing his usual British military uniform.

Sir Josiah Symon K.C. presents the 9th Reinforcements of the 27th Battalion with two flags and three bugles at a ceremony in front of the Mitcham camp headquarters. The mementoes were received on behalf of the men by Lieutenant Arthur Roland Burton.
