General notes

One of the ships owned by the Iredale and Porters Fleet, Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.

Historical information

From information provided: 'Drumalis' was lauched in 1890 and was wrecked in 1901. Due to the good shape of the vessel's exterior paint, and the fact that competition between steam ships towards the turn of the century made the upkeep of these sailing ships less probable, this suggests that this photograph was probably taken on an early voyage. 'Drumalis' was known to be in Sydney in May 1892, July 1896, and June 1897, and Newcastle in July 1900. 'Drumalis' was also known to be in Port Pirie in early 1898.
