Summary

The four masted steel barque 'Comet', 3014 tons, at anchor. [steel 4 mast barque. 3014 tons, ON112812, 323.0 x 46.1 x 26.0 Built 1901 (2) W Hamilton and Co. Port Glasgow. Owners Anglo-American Oil Co. Registered London. Before WW1 sold to German and renamed Orotava late 1912. She lay at Santa Rosalia for duration of WW1 and then became James Dollar and converted into a barge c.1932].

One of the ships owned by the Anglo-American Oil Co. Ltd., London.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
