The composite barque 'Kaisow', 795 tons, in an unidentified port [composite barque, 820 tons. ON60392. 193.2 x 32.0 x 20.3. Built 1868 (11) Robert Steele. Greenock. Owners: Killick Martin and Co. Registered London. c.1885 W Bowen junior. Foundered 15 Nov. 1891, repeat 1891, when about 60 miles WSW of Valparaiso when her cargo of manganese ore shifted while on a voyage from Valparaiso towards England].

General notes

One of the ships known as the Tea Clippers and China Traders.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
