Circular Quay, Sydney in 1871 with the ships 'Ellen Stewart', in distance 'Sabroan', 'Hallowe'en' (left panel); 'Dunbar Castle' (centre panel); and 'Dunbar Castle' (continued), 'Abergeldie', 'Border Chief', and 'Duke of Sutherland' (right panel). [Border Chief = iron 3 mast ship, 1055 gross, 1011 net. ON60708/60748?, 212.0 x 35.0 x 20.3. Built 1870 (7) Readhead, Softley and Co. South Shields, Owner Henry Adamson, reg. Aberdeen c. 1881 to owners in Germany. In the 1870's made at least two voyages to New Zealand from England]

This section comprises scenes of Circular Quay 1870-1890.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
