Summary

The steel barque 'Ventura', 1700 tons, after being renamed 'Stangholmen' [steel ship, later reduced to barque, 1700 tons, ON93247. 258.5 x 39.1 x 22.8. Built 1886 (1) A McMillan and Son. Dumbraton. Owners: Scotia Shipping Co. Ltd., registered Glasgow, later P Denniston and Co., registered Glasgow. c.1909 sold to Norway and renamed 'Stromsbo' later renamed 'Stanholmsen'. Does not appear to have survived WW1].

One of the ships owned by The Island Line / P. Denniston and Co., Glasgow.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
