Summary

The steel barque 'Gwydyr Castle', 1512 tons, at anchor [steel barque, 1512 tons, ON102113. 249.2 x 37.2 x 21.5. Built 1893 (10) A Stephen and Sons, Dundee, as 'Newfield' for Ship 'Newfield' Ltd (Brownells and Co.) registered Liverpool sold before 1904 to R Thomas and Co. (Ship Gwydir Castle Ltd) and renamed. Passed to owners in St. Johns, Newfoundland, and finally still without change of name, to owners in Port Louis, Mauritius and was broken up in 1932].

One of the ships owned by Robert Thomas and Co., Caernarvon.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
