The iron barque 'Gwrtheyrn Castle', 803 tons, in an undidentified harbour [iron, 3 mast barque, 803 gross tons. ON70315, 191.7 x 31.8 x 19.2. Built 1876 (1) Osbourne, Graham and Co. Sunderland. Owners: Robert Rees and Others, registered Carnarvon, later R. Thomas and Co. registered Canarvon, c.1910 sold to Italian owners without change of name. c.1913 to Russian owners renamed 'Ira' and after the war to Finnish owners without change of name].

One of the ships owned by Robert Thomas and Co., Caernarvon.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
