Historical information

(Godson number 69A/26). According to Frances Heyer, this is Miss Kate Read, before her marriage to James McFarlane. However, another relative believes the person to be Kate's sister. James McFarlane was the fireman on the PS 'Gem', and died 21st November 1887 at Wentworth Hospital, after being scalded when the boiler burst. Eileen Helm, the late granddaughter of Kate Read (father William McFarlane), believed this is an image of Kate Read, and adds Kate Read was born 1861 and her sisters were Margret, born 1866 and Emeliah, born 1869.
