Logo Santo. Watercolour, 7.25" x 9.25" [See also PRG 1/5/246. These are the most problematic in regards to dating as it has not been possible to verify the exact location depicted. There is no specific mention in either Dutton or Elder of Logo Santo (or Logo Santa as this painting is labelled). It may be Lago Santo near Modena. The Lights travelled across this area ca.1826. You can just see what may be the blue of the lake in PRG 1/5/218. We may be erroneous in assuming these depict different aspects of the same place. Elder also says (page 14) 'Few exact dates exist for these years in the Mediterranean: the sketches and paintings which have survived are mostly undated and often untitled ...'.].

Sketches

La Maddalena. Watercolour, 7.25" x 9.5" [Elder 'Art of William Light' gives no clues. Dutton 'Founder of a city' states that :Light was in Sardinia from May to October/November 1829, and specifically left La Maddalena (on the north east tip) 31 October 1829. Presumably a sketch was drawn at this time, and the watercolour followed at some later date - ca.1828-1829.].

Sketches

San Simplicius, a Pisan Church, Terranova. Watercolour, 7.25" x 9.25" [Elder 'Art of William Light' gives no date for this, however he does indicate that the church is in Terranova, now Olbia, and we know from Dutton that Light was in Sardinia from May to October/November 1829, so again a safe date would be ca.1829.].

Inside of the cottage at Baldo. Watercolour, 9.25" x 9.25" [Elder 'Art of William Light' says that Light was in Sardinia in 1829 and after leaving La Maddalena 31 October, subsequently rode inland on horseback, going as far as Baldo. Original sketch at least probably dates from this time; the watercolour probably somewaht later. Dutton confirms these dates - so. ca.1829.].
