General notes

An article on a voyage of the James Comrie (ship) to Kangaroo Island appears in Adelaide's newspaper 'The Advertiser', 27 April 1901. "... Two things strike the visitor - the splendid depth of water and the absence of any jetty or landing stage. Though moneys have been lavishly spent in jetties elsewhere, the residents of Hog Bay have received nothing to facilitate the shipping of their exports, which are considerable. ..." Penneshaw was originally known as Hog Bay due to the pigs released by explorer Nicholas Baudin. The photograph shows a short jetty reaching into a deep anchorage. A ship is lying at anchor off the jetty.
