Summary

Stow Memorial Church, Flinders Street, north side was named after the Reverend Thomas Quinton Stow who was the first minister of the Congregational Church. Land adjoining the Treasury Building was purchased in 1863. The foundation stone was laid in 1865 and the church was opened in 1867. The style is English Gothic. Stonework decoration includes fruits, flowers and a medieval gargoyle squirrel after the architect's pet squirrel which was imported from England.
