Historical information

Wiles Chromium & Electro-Plating Co. was situated in Waymouth St, Adelaide, near Elizabeth St. The street number '215' on the building in the photograph is therefore believed to be 215 Waymouth St. The business was opened in 1929 by James Fletcher Wiles and operated successfully throughout the Great Depression. The company worked on the war effort during WWII and in 1950 changed its name to Wiles Manufacturing Co. Ltd and expanded its production at a Mile End factory. The photograph was owned by Alfred Alexander Ward (1899-1975). Ward worked as an electroplater and lived in South Australia in the 1930s.
