Summary

Flinders Street Baptist Church was erected between 1861 and 1863 and symbolised the consolidation of a previously divided Adelaide Baptist community. Under the leadership of Reverend Silas Mead (1834-1909) the Church thrived. Silas Mead was born in Somerset and arrived in South Australia in 1861. By 1896 he had trained over 30 ministers, church members numbered 4270, 600 Sunday School teachers taught 6500 children.
