Summary

Stow Memorial Church and Manse, Flinders Street, north side. The church was built between 1865-67 in memory of the Reverend Thomas Quinton, first Congregational Minister in the colony. The foundation stone was laid by Alexander Hay on 7 Februrary 1865 and the official opening was on 12 April 1867. The church was designed by Robert G Thomas. A medieval gargoyle squirrel was carved into the central pillar in memory of the architect's pet squirrel which was brought from England. The Manse was built in 1869 in early English Gothic style.
