Summary

The wreck of the brig 'Harriet Hope' on the shore at Port Adelaide. Buildings and chimneys of the port are visible in the background, along with sailing ships berthed at the port. The 'Harriet Hope' was built in Sweden in 1845 and became a local trader, being registered at Port Adelaide in 1864, and made several voyages to various parts of the globe, then was purchased by the Government for service as a lightship, stationed at Glenelg and Spencer's Gulf. The brig was purchased by W.R. Cave & Co., and then the South Australian Coal Company Ltd and was used as a lighter. 'Harriet Hope' sank in the middle of the Port RIver with a cargo of coal, and was then beached on the south-west side of Jervois Bridge for a number of years, before it was demolished in 1902, purchased for use as firewood.
