Historical information

William John Hocking, son of William Hocking and Eliza Smith, born at Daylesford, Victoria, was a teacher with a 50 year career with the Education Department of SA. William was appointed as a Pupil Teacher at Moonta Primary School on 1 January 1885, then after attending Training College in 1890, he was appointed as a qualified teacher as an Assistant at Le Fevre Peninsula on 1 January 1891. On 1 April 1900 he was assigned to relieve the headmaster at Woodside, and was later appointed headmaster at Halbury on 1 January 1901, Baket Range on 1 January 1902 until 27 September 1903, and Delamere until 27 June 1908. He resigned on 31 December 1935. William married Emilie Louise Heinrich (1869-1943) on 19 December 1898, St. Peter's Anglican Cathedral, Adelaide, and together they had four children: Marjorie (1899-1977), Kenneth John (1903-1994), Gwendolyn (1905-1980), and Harold William Murray (born and died 1910).
