A typed caption on the back reads: 'At the invitation of the Empire Parliamentary Association, an Australian delegation of 7 members of the Commonwealth Parliament is visiting Britain to see the United Kingdom's War Effort. It consists of five members of the House of Representatives and two Senators. Each State and political party in the Australian Parliament is represented. The delegation recently visited the Australian Forestry Unit [deleted word] Northumberland, where members met and talked to men from the states they represent back home. No.3 Lt. General E.K. Smart, Australian Military representative, talks to men of the Forestry Unit'.

Maynard Johnson Cole, born 6 July 1878, enlisted on 4 September 1917 in the Army Medical Corps, 50th Battalion, and left Australia on 5 June 1918 from Sydney aboard the 'Orontes'. His father, William James Cole, was a Labor MP in the South Australian Parliament, and supported two conscription referenda.
