Summary

An P10 Vega Gull plane was imported into Australia in 1936 carrying the VH-UVG call sign. It was subsequently taken over by the RAAF in 1940, who acquired from J. Collins in January that year. This is as it appeared in its pre-airforce days. According to a researcher, this photograph would have been taken at Parafield at the end of the 1936 Brisbane-Adelaide Air race. The plane was flown by its owner, wealthy Queensland pastoralist J.W. Collins, who joined the RAAF in WW2 and lost his life in a crash in 1940.
