Historical information

Information from a researcher: Born Maria Dorothea Louisa Friederika Schultze in Herzberg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, ca.1823, Maria married August Richard Theodor 'Richard' Schild in Germany, 1848. They immigrated to South Australia on the 'Princess Louise', arriving 7 August 1849, and had four children: Wilhelmina (Minna) Sophia Elizabeth Schild, born 12 November 1849, Franz (Frank) Carl Ludewig Schild, born 1 October 1851, Carl (Charles) Heinrich Ferdinand Schild, born 3 September 1853, and Helena (Lena) Emilie Marie Schild, born 27 July 1858. Minna married Otto Heinrich Nienaber in Adelaide, 9 November 1869. According to family records, the Schilds anglicised their name to Shield about 1918, although this photograph suggests that they may have started earlier than that. Maria, or 'Mrs Shield', died in Adelaide, 14 July 1879.
