Summary

[General description] Stone building on Wyatt Street, with the name of mercantile house W & T Rhodes Ltd. displayed prominently. This was their tinware manufactory making domestic and dairy tinware. This company, established in a small way in the 1850s had many different interests by 1909 including packing case manufacturing, retail hardware and furnishing stores. (Information from Adelaide's 'Advertiser' of Wednesday 24 March 1909). [On back of photograph] 'Acre 146 / Wyatt Street, east side / 12 June 1934 / Site of Rhodes' building: near side is 33.5 yards south of Grenfell Street / Frontage is 18.5 yards' (Another hand) 'Rhodes' building demolished in 1934 (Compare with B 6614)'.
