Summary

[General description] Contingent of soldiers posed in front of a corrugated iron building with officers seated in the foreground. In the centre is Trumpeter Davis, holding a bugle. [On back of photograph] 'South Australian contingent at the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, London 1897. Drafted from mounted units from various parts of S.A. Under the command of Lieut. Col. James Rowell (sitting in centre), on his right is Capt. Wilson, of Mt Gambier, left is Lieut. Hay. Sitting on the ground, from left to right, are Sergeant J.E. Rowell; Trumpeter Davis; and Sergeant Major de Passey. For a list of those who were selected to form the contingent see Observer, 24 April 1897, page 31, column d'.
