Summary

[General description] Portrait of Sir Richard Davies Hanson, with the chin curtain beard popular at the time. He is seated and wearing his wig and gown. He was 4th Premier of South Australia from 30 September 1857 to 9th May 1860 and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Australia from 20 November 1861 to 4 March 1876. He was knighted by Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle in July 1869. He served a short term as acting Governor from November 1872 to April 1873.
