Summary

[General descripiton] This view, probably taken from the jetty, looks back to the shore and distant low hills. A group of people are gathered on the beach to attend the unveiling ceremony of Colonel Light's Cairn. The monument incorporates a replica of Light's engraved commemorative stone with his initials and the date. The original is housed in the Mortlock Library. [On back of photograph] 'Scene at Rapid Bay, South Australia, February 4th, 1928 / On the occasion of the unveiling of the cairn in memory of the first landing of Colonel Light on Australia's mainland during September 1836.
