[General description] Steinau, Hesse, Germany, birthplace of Johann Menge, 1788 -1852, Geologist and linguist, author of "Mineral Kingdom of South Australia". In this view down the cobbled main street of the town children lean out of the windows of a house on the left. On the right of the street is the River Kinzig, with small bridges for access to the houses. [On back of photograph] 'Steimnau a.d. Kimzig / Germany / Hauptstrasse mit schlossturm. (Birthplace of Johann Menge, 1788-1852 / High St. with castle tower).'
