Summary

Newland Memorial Congregational Church, Victor Harbor. Newland Memorial Congregational Church, Victor Harbor. This original church was built in 1868 and was named in honour of the Reverend Ridgeway Newland who arrived in Encounter Bay with 34 settlers. After a fatal carriage accident Reverend Ridgeway Newland was buried beneath the pulpit in his chapel. His remains were later removed to the Victor Harbor cemetery. A new church was built in 1927 and the old church became the church hall. This photograph shows the new church which was built in 1927. It cost eight thousand and two hundred pounds to build and was opened by Sir Henry Newland, grandson of the original pastor
