Summary

Muggs Hill Road, Mitcham in the 1880's. View is looking south. The convent at the top of the road was demolished in 1951. Alex Tolmer's house is on the top left. (Details supplied by Mr. W.A. Norman). Thomas Mugg was Micham's first school teacher. Originally he was a carpenter and joiner and was appointed teacher, a position he held for twenty years. He taught writing, reading and arithmetic to students aged three to fourteen. The school opened in 1847
