Summary

[General description] Full-rigged wooden ship the 'Success', in dry dock for maintenance. Built at Natmoo, Tenasserim, Burma for Cockerell & Co. of Calcutta in1840 she had a chequered career: as a merchant ship, a migrant ship from England to Australia, a store ship, a prison hulk and a museum ship. In the latter role she was incorrectly billed as an old convict ship and fitted up with lurid displays showing the horrors of life on a convict ship, touring around Australia, to England and the eastern seaboard and Great Lakes of the United States. Her 106 year long career ended when she was burned to the waterline and sunk whilst berthed in Lake Eyrie, near Cleveland, Ohio in 1946
