Summary

Old lighthouse at Cape Northumberland was built in 1859 and used a kerosene light. It was rebuilt further inland as the first structure was in danger of falling into the sea. This was the most southerly built lighthouse in South Australia and was built following the wrecking of the SS "Admella" which hit a reef off Carpenters Rocks in 1859 claiming 89 lives. The photograph shows the lighthouse, cottage and the family that lived there
