Summary

Construction on the jetty at Port Mac Donnell began in 1860. The shed for the lifeboat was added in 1863 and was finally removed in 1957. The jetty was 244 metres long and extended to 305 metres in 1863 following a petition by the townsfolk. It was lengthened again in 1885 to 323 metres. The port reached its heyday during the 1970's. The photograph shows rail wagons containing sacks of grain and other goods ready for loading onto ships
