General notes

It is possible to see the encroaching sand dunes in this photograph, and today (2008) only the Hotel and Telegraph Station remain. The Telegraph Station was owned and operated as the Post Office by R. George Law. In 1910 the Globe Hotel was run by licensee E.H.Campbell. [From additional information supplied. In 1927, after 50 years of service, the Telegraph equipment was removed following the completion of a new, more northerly route which followed the East-West Railway line. 50 years later, more than 100 years of postal service in Fowlers Bay came to an end when, on 12th May 1967, the Fowlers Bay Post Office was temporarily closed. Permanent closure followed on 18th September 1967. The property was subsequently sold to Mr George Law of Bookabie, who utilised the building as a holiday house. Having fallen into considerable disrepair, the building changed hands and underwent extensive restoration. It is now a private residence. [From additional information provided].
